Beginning with the nine tones and six tunes in Cantonese, the play evokes a variety of real emotions in the world, both virtual and real, affecting countless men and women. Centred around the spiritual issues of loneliness, existence, lust and identity of the modern man, with a live soundtrack of saxophone, huqin and percussion, and interpreted by six actors wandering in the world of reality; a young girl who treats the urban jungle as a Playground, a husband who is afraid of not being manly enough, and a strong woman who is always striving for the best... every day, every night, criticising or forgiving, living or surviving, searching for their spiritual shores in the city of the Nine Sounds of Exhalation! In the city of nine voices, they search for their own spiritual shore.
Using these nine characters as a metaphor, Nine Soundscapes develops nine stories of what men and women in different characters and situations may face, are experiencing, and imagine may happen, reflecting the joys and humbleness of human emotions.
